Plea bargain is a term used when a defense attorneys tries to get his client's charges reduced and for that plea bargain with the prosecution.

Generally, a defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge, even if defendant do not believe he is guilty, if it appears that he will be found guilty of the more serious crime, thus saving himself from harsher penalties.
