Adverse possession : meaning
 
 

In relation to property means to acquire title through obvious occupancy of the land, while claiming ownership for the period of years set by the law

An interest in the land or property which is contrary to the interest of its owners in fact.

It is a process by which tile of another is acquired in the land or property of that person which paying any compensation or consideration by way of holding the property in possession for a period of limitation set out by the law and in a manner which conflicts to the actual ownership right.

In layman's sense if one person is in possession of property without the consent of or in conflict with the interest of its owner in fact and that owner fails to take any action within a period prescribed by law the said person came to acquire that property by way of adverse possession.
