SCHEDULE I Manufacture of Aerated Waters and processes incidental thereto 1. Fencing of machines.- All machines for filling bottles or syphons shall be so constructed, placed or fenced as to prevent, as far as may be practicable, a fragment of a bursting bottle or syphon from striking any person employed in the factory. 2. Face guards and gauntlets.- (1) The occupier shall provide and maintain in good condition for the use of all persons engaged in filling bottles or syphons: (a) suitable face-guards to protect the face, neck and throat, and (b) suitable gauntlets for both arms to protect the whole hand and arms. Provided that: (i) paragraph 2(1) shall not apply where bottles are filled by means of an automatic machine so constructed that no fragment of a bursting bottle can escape, and (ii) where a machine is so constructed that only one arm of the bottler at work upon it is exposed to danger, a gauntlet need not be provided for the arm which is not exposed to danger. (2) The occupier shall provide and maintain in good condition for the use of all persons engaged in corking, crowning, screwing, wiring, foiling, capsuling, sighting or labelling bottles or syphons- (a) suitable face-guards to protect the face, neck and throat, and (b) suitable gauntlets for both arms to protect the arms and at least half of the palm and the space between the thumb and forefinger. 3. Wearing of face guards and gauntlets.- All persons engaged in any of the processes specified in paragraph 2 shall, while at work in such processes, wear the face guards and gauntlets provided under the provisions of the said paragraph. |
