3. Functions.-(1) In addition to the functions entrusted to the Laboratory by the act, the laboratory shall carry out the following functions namely: -

(a) Analysis of samples of food sent by any officer or authority authorised by the central government for the purpose and submission of the certificate of analysis to the authorities concerned;

(b) Investigation for the purpose of fixation of standard of any article of food ;

(c) Investigation for collaboration with the laboratories of public analysts in the various states and such other laboratories and institutions which the central government may approve in this behalf, for the purpose of standardizing methods of analysis.

(2) The laboratory specified in col.(1) of table I below, shall carry out the functions entrusted to it by the Act or these rules in respect of the local areas specified in the corresponding entry in col.(2) thereof.

Provided that the laboratory specified in Col. (1) of Table 11 shall also carry out analysis of samples received under sub-section (2) of Sec. 6 of the Act in respect of the local areas specified in the corresponding entry in Col. (2) thereof.
